As Cricinfo exclusively reported this week, the amendment to the ZC constitution which scrapped the proposal to have the government appoint seven directors sailed through last week after the Sports and Recreation Commission approved it.

Cricinfo sources said after long deliberation, the country's ten provincial boards chairmen decided that only Chingoka would be acceptable to local and international stakeholders as chairman of ZC as of now. None of the current board members, the sources say, was willing to challenge him.

This is despite widespread criticism of Chingoka's handling of many aspects of the game and an independent audit into allegations of financial mismanagement within ZC has yet to report.

The chairmen, who constitute an electoral college, met on Wednesday to nominate short-listed candidates for the final selection Saturday.

ZC is under pressure to incorporate experienced and knowledgeable personalities on its board after many of those named earlier in the year had no connections with cricket. That pressure may see a few more familiar names reappear when the new board takes office on Saturday.
