England are set to name an unchanged side to the one that lost by 239 runs in the first Test at Lord's, after Paul Collingwood was released from the squad on the eve of the Edgbaston Test.
That decision means that Ashley Giles, whose performance at Lord's led to some scathing criticism in the English media, seems certain to play alongside his captain, Michael Vaughan, who declared himself fit despite taking a painful blow on the elbow in yesterday's net session.
Collingwood had been a late addition to England's squad after last week's tornado in Birmingham, which drenched the pitch with an inch of rain in a one-hour deluge. He now returns to county duty with Durham, and will have to wait to add to his two Test caps, both of which were picked up in Sri Lanka in 2003-04.
