Early September saw the arrival of five Cricket Development Officers (CDO) from Samoa - Perelini Mulitalo, Akusotino Ropati, Olsen Va'afusuaga, Iosefa Failua and Peter Poulos. The five all took part in various activities that will no doubt see them return home as better and more able coaches.
The programs the five Samoan CDO's participated in included:
- NZ Cricket Level One Coaching Course - once the group have completed their 50 hours of practical experience they will have the capability to facilitate Introductory Level Courses in Samoa.
- Attended the NZ Cricket Coaches Conference
- Visited local Primary schools in Auckland, assisting ACA Development Officers with the facilitation of the sessions
- Assisted with coaching of 140 children at the ACA holiday clinic
On completion of the above it is now vital that the Samoan CDO's do not sit `idle' with their new found cricket knowledge. They must now put everything they have learnt into practice by coaching the athletes as well as other aspiring coaches, to the point where on the next visit by an ACA representative they should be able to facilitate an Introductory Level Course with the ACA representative merely overseeing the course.
The next stage in the partnership will be the visit of Auckland CA CEO, Andrew Eade, to Samoa in late October/early November.
