Jim Cumbes, the Lancashire chief executive, has agreed to remain in his position after he reaches the official retirement age of 65 in May 2009.

The club want to main consistency among the management team was they continue with ambitious plans to redevelop Old Trafford with the aim of hosting an Ashes Test in 2013.

"Initially, the offer from committee asking me to stay took me by surprise, but after some consideration I was delighted to accept," Cumbes said. "The club is moving into exciting times, following the complete change of structure in the committee and the executive, not to mention the redevelopment of the stadium. Having been involved with this from the start, it made the decision to stay on very easy."

Cumbes will form the executive team alongside commercial director Geoff Durbin, finance and operations director Lee Morgan and Mike Watkinson, who has recently been appointed the club's first director of cricket.
