Demolition work has begun at Old Trafford in preparation of the first phase in a multi-million pound investment scheme.
The first phase of the plan includes a £12 million self-contained conference and events facility and a £3 million upgrade of the cricketing facilities, including 2,500 new permanent spectator seats, new permanent floodlights, a power upgrade, and a new scoreboard and replay screen. Work already completed includes a new £600,000 outfield and drainage system.
The demolition is now well underway and is expected to be complete in time for the builders to begin work on the new development.
The conference and events suite will be one of the largest purpose built facilities in the country, able to cater for 1000 people for a dinner and up to 1000 delegates for a conference. Although self-contained and with its own entrance separate from the cricket club, the glass fronted suite will overlook the pitch. The immense glass front will provide natural daylight for delegates, and there will be a 2.5m balcony running along the full length of the suite.
