Department of Sport donates equipment
The Department of Sport in conjunction with the United Cricket Board of South Africa have committed themselves to developing cricket in the previously disadvantaged areas around the country
The Department of Sport in conjunction with the United Cricket Board of South Africa have committed themselves to developing cricket in the previously disadvantaged areas around the country.
In their efforts to develop the game, they have built and upgraded facilities and have donated equipment to the Premier League clubs from these areas. A total of R500 000 has been spent on equipment nationally to ensure that the players receive the best opportunities possible.
On Wednesday 11 June 2003, Mr Riedwaan Mangera from the Department of Sport presented Lenasia, Marks Park, Roodepoort, and Soweto Cricket Clubs with two bags each, of equipment.
Mr Alan Kourie, Chief Executive Officer of the Gauteng Cricket Board thanked the Department of Sport, the MEC of Sport Mr Mondli Gungubele, and the UCBSA for their contributions and efforts in developing the game.
