Isam: Shafiul could replace Rubel if needed
Mohammad Isam talks about the likely replacements for Bangladesh fast bowler Rubel Hossain, who was sent to jail by a Dhaka court on ThursdayBangladesh cricketer Rubel Hossain has been sent to jail by a Dhaka court in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Dhaka Metropolitan magistrate Muhammad Anwar Sadat passed the order after Rubel surrendered before the court and pleaded for bail on Thursday morning.
Rubel had, on December 15, been granted four weeks of anticipatory bail in the case. This came two days after the complainant, an actress, had filed the case against Rubel with Mirpur police station on charges of making false promises of marriage.
Rubel is in Bangladesh's 15-member World Cup squad. But with his future uncertain, he could be replaced if he fails to join the flight to Australia on January 24.
BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said that it was too early to comment on the issue, but discussions were on. "We are discussing the matter, so it is quite early to say what we are planning to do," Chowdhury said. "But he had been handling the matter personally so far. If he fails to join the squad in time, we have a contingency plan in place."
