Duleep Mendis New CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket

Sri Lanka Cricket is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Duleep Mendis as the New Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Cricket. This was announced at an Executive Committee meeting held yesterday at SLC headquarters.

Mr. Mendis succeeds Mr. Anura Tennekoon who retired from the post of CEO last December.

Mr. Mendis a former student of St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa and St. Thomas's College Mt. Lavinia. He represented SSC in 1971-1991 (Premier Tournament) for 20 years and Captained SSC for 5 years. He represented Sri Lanka for 18 years and participated in every World Cup Tournament from the inception (1975) in the capacity of Player/ Captain/Coach/Manager/Advisor. He also Captained Sri Lanka from 1982-1987 and achieved the First Test Victory against India and a Asia Cup victory beating Imran Khan's Pakistan Team. Having served in the Selection Committee for many years and was Chairman for 3-4 years including the time Sri Lanka won the World Cup in 1996.

Mr. Mendis was appointed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as Cricket Ambassador for Sri Lanka in 1999, and responsible for developing cricket in underdeveloped Countries in Asia, he is presently Chairman of the Development Committee for Asian Cricket Council. He was also a member of MCC International Advisory Panel, Member of the ICC Cricket playing/ Development Committee and Honorary Life Member of MCC.

Mr. Mendis was responsible for setting up the National Development Center for SLC (Formally BCCSL) in addition to his new position as CEO for SLC he also holds the position of Director Development at National Development Center of Sri Lanka Cricket.
