The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has selected the England Board XI squad to play Zimbabwe and MCC at Beaconsfield Cricket Club on Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th June respectively. The two games will act as warm-up exercises before the Triple Crown Tournament and European Championships later in the summer.
The England Board XI represents the highest level of cricket attainable by amateur cricketers in the country. The 13-man squad features five players who have never represented their country at this level: Peter Wellings, Stuart Stoneman, Ian Parkin, Vyv Pike and Marcus Sharp.
Steve Foster begins his second season as captain and this year's side features three players with experience of First Class Cricket: Peter Wellings, who played for Middlesex, David Pennett, who represented Nottinghamshire, and Marcus Sharp, formerly of Lancashire. Andy Pick, the newly appointed National Coach for the North East, is Team Coach.
