England cut for Edgbaston win
Odds on an England victory have been cut following the first day's play
Those lucky people with a ticket to Edgbaston on Thursday enjoyed a fantastic opening day to the second Test with England taking the game to Australia in a fabulous display of attacking batting. The Australians, having begun as 4/6 (1.66) favourites, were as long as 2/1 at lunch, but their late rally saw them cut to 9/10 (1.90) for victory at the close, while England, who began at 4/1, are 2/1 (3.00) and the draw had drifted out to 3/1 (4.00).
The Edgbaston pitch looked an absolute belter for batsmen and if England can make more than 400 in a day, then it's anyone's guess what Australia can make. bet365 make it 5/6 (1.83) for Ricky Ponting's side to score 460 or more, while it's the same price for it to be less than 460. Justin Langer, who's looked in superb form so far on tour, is 5/6 (1.83) to make 42 or more (the same price for less than 42) while they make Matthew Hayden, who's struggled ever so slightly, is exactly the same price. Both men are rated as even money (2.00) to score a half-century.
