As England's one-day form continues to depress, an article in today's London Daily Mail claims that Graham Thorpe was approached and asked whether he was prepared to rescind his retirement from one-day internationals to help bail England out.

The article says that Thorpe was called by David Graveney, the chairman of selectors, and asked about his availability. "Grav asked me to confirm that I had retired from one-day cricket, and I confirmed that I had," Thorpe told the newspaper. "I've had my time and I don't miss it. One-day cricket is dead and buried for me now, and it would be a huge backward step for England to pick me again anyway."

Graveney admitted that he had spoken to Thorpe. "Nothing is a closed book ... but you have to respect an individual's wishes," he said. "However, it was worth asking because Thorpe is a quality player who still has a lot to offer."
