Lording it on the last ball

After Stuart Broad's four-ball cameo sealed a record chase for the Hobart Hurricanes, we look at other chases sealed off the final delivery in the Big Bash League

Runs needed: 1
Bowler: Brett Lee
Batsman: Yasir Arafat

Commentary:19.6 Lee to Yasir Arafat, 1 run, he's missed it! Henriques, the man who lugged Sixers with a brilliant half-century, has fumbled a simple run-out chance! Scorchers sneak through! They've defended their BBL crown! Everyone had come up inside the circle, three short covers, a silly mid-on even. The ball was full and straight again, Arafat went for a flick and found midwicket. The batsmen set off right away for a suicidal single. Henriques got a lovely bounce, but he could not grasp the ball in his hands! Lee is on his knees, head in hands. What a way to bow out of cricket!

Eoin Morgan's last-ball six sealed Sydney Thunder's victory  Cricket Australia/Getty Images

Sydney Thunder beat Melbourne Stars, Sydney, January 2017

Runs needed: 5
Bowler: Ben Hilfenhaus
Batsman: Eoin Morgan

Commentary:19.6 Hilfenhaus to Morgan, SIX, goodness! What a finish! It's deafening at the Showground Stadium. It was a nothing ball. Full and on the pads and Morgan lofts it straight down the ground. It's huge, it's clean, goes way back into the crowd, around 25 rows back. And it's the first win for the defending champions

Jake Lehmann dispatches the only ball of his innings over the boundary  Cricket Australia/Getty Images

Adelaide Strikers beat Hobart Hurricanes, Adelaide, January 2016

Runs needed: 4
Bowler: Simon Milenko
Batsman: Jake Lehmann

Commentary: 19.6 Milenko to Lehmann, SIX, And Jake Lehmann seals it in style with a first-ball/last-ball six! Milenko goes full and outside off, Lehmann looks to loft it. Instead, he scoops it over mid-off who is in the circle. That's a six! and that's more than enough for Strikers

Peter Forrest and Chris Hartley are all smiles after reviews confirmed there would be no need for a Super Over  Getty Images

Brisbane Heat beat Adelaide Strikers, Adelaide, December 2012

Runs needed: 4
Bowler: Gary Putland
Batsman: Chris Hartley

Commentary: 19.6 Putland to Hartley, FOUR, Is that a tie? They run three off the last ball, but did it hit the boundary? Here's what happened... full toss again, Hartley carves with all his might over the men inside the ring in the covers. Ferguson had a lot of room to cover from deep backward point. He had to put in a dive and drag the ball in. It's a matter of inches. He hurls the ball back to the keeper as the batsmen complete three. And then we see the replays... The ball touched the rope before Ferguson could drag it back in! How dramatic is that... He looks distraught as he realises what happened. The Adelaide support staff looks deflated too, and the crowd goes into a collective hush.

Nathan Rimmington's terrific final over wasn't enough for Renegades  Getty Images

Melbourne Stars beat Melbourne Renegades, MCG, January 2015

Runs needed: 1
Bowler: Nathan Rimmington
Batsman: Tom Triffitt

Commentary: 19.6 Rimmington to Triffitt, 1 run, down the track and nudged to on side, Ferguson dives and flicks it back. Rimmington near the stumps couldn't collect the ball and they scamper for the run. It seems he has disturbed the stumps as well before. Oh what a game of cricket!

Michael Hussey is jubilant after a front-foot no-ball eased Perth Scorchers' task  Getty Images

Perth Scorchers beat Melbourne Stars , Perth, Semi-final, February 2013

Runs needed: 3
Bowler: James Faulkner
Batsman: Michael Hussey

Commentary: 12.6 Faulkner to Voges, 2 no balls, drama as he bowls a front-foot no-ball and they run through to the keeper, incredible The field will be coming right up now, this is just incredible

12.6 Faulkner to Hussey, FOUR, full toss and he gets it over the infield and the Scorchers have won a cliffhanger, what a dramatic finish we've seen here tonight! James Faulkner bowls a front foot no ball - which I believe would have been a no ball for having only three in the circle - to concede the game after a topsy-turvy, rain affected night.

Aaron Finch - death bowler? Finch dismissed big-hitter Mitchell Marsh, and athletically ran out Adam Voges, but couldn't deliver on the final delivery  Getty Images

Perth Scorchers beat Melbourne Renegades, Docklands stadium, December 2016

Runs needed: 3
Bowler: Aaron Finch
Batsman: Ashton Agar

Commentary: 19.6 Finch to Agar, SIX, and over the leg side field. Slow full toss on middle and leg, right in the arc of Agar. Swings and cleaaars the boundary over deep midwicket. Agony for Renegades. What happened there? A crazy five minutes, but the Scorchers get the win in the end. Eventually.

23 off the final over? Easy  Getty Images

Sydney Sixers beat Sydney Thunder, SCG, January 2015

Runs needed: 4
Bowler: Josh Lalor
Batsman: Steve O'Keefe

An exhibition of late hitting by Jordan Silk, who swung five sixes in his unbeaten 69 from 44 balls, kept the game within the Sixers' sights. Lalor had conceded six runs from his first three overs, but was unable to conceded fewer than 23 in the last over of the night. Silk swung two sixes early in the over to bring it down to eight off two, before Steve O'Keefe edged and swiped two boundaries to secure the win.
