Flawless Australia's World Cup fifer
In their seventh World Cup final, in front of a packed MCG, Australia stamped their dominance against New Zealand, claiming their fifth World Cup title
Australia were in their seventh World Cup final and New Zealand in their first. The trans-Tasman clash had raised the expectations of fans, given Australia's dominance at home and New Zealand's winning run in the tournament. Yet, it was Australia who surged ahead early as their bowlers, led by Mitchell Starc - who finished as Player of the Tournament - ran through the top order. Australia's chase of a mere 184 was built on fifties by Michael Clarke and Steven Smith and the World Cup win - their fifth overall - was the perfect farewell for Clarke, who was playing his last ODI.
