Former Bangladeshi cricketer Ahsan Zaheer has died at the age of 60. Zaheer's hundred for Barisal against Comilia in the National Cricket Championship final in 1975 made him the first batsman to score a century in a competitive match in Bangladesh's history.
Zaheer fell ill while attending his older brother's funeral on Saturday and was taken to a hospital in Dhaka. He died due to a heart attack.
Zaheer played for the major cricket clubs in Dhaka, including Abahani and Mohammedan Sporting Club, until his retirement from competitive cricket in 1985. He ventured into business and was also an expert on television, apart from being involved with Surjo Tarun Club in this season's Dhaka First Division Cricket League.
Zaheer is survived by his wife and daughter.
