Former world record holder to coach State Canterbury Magicians
The Board of Canterbury Cricket today confirmed the appointment of Kirsty Flavell to the position of State Canterbury Magicians coach
The Board of Canterbury Cricket today confirmed the appointment of Kirsty Flavell to the position of State Canterbury Magicians coach.
Flavell will take up her position on July 1 and her appointment is initially for the 2003/04 season.
Currently on the selection panel for the TelstraClear White Ferns, Flavell will resign from that position to allow herself to concentrate on her new coaching duties.
A top-order batsman in her playing days for Canterbury and New Zealand, Flavell played 33 first-class and 33 one-day matches for Canterbury and represented NZ in six Test matches and 38 one-day internationals.
She holds the NZ Test record score of 204, made against England in 1996, and was the first woman to score 200 runs in a Test innings.
Director of coaching and development Richard Hayward commented: "I am delighted that Kirsty will be coaching the Magicians. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position and we look forward to seeing the team develop under her guidance. We acknowledge the contribution made by Vicki Burtt during her two-year term as coach. Whilst Vicki did not reapply for the position, she will continue to be heavily involved with the development of women's cricket in Canterbury."
