Found: India's dossier on Sri Lanka

India did their homework on Sri Lanka - there's more evidence than the tour's scoreline to prove it

Attention Pakistan: if you are presently in the process of scouting Sri Lanka's batsmen and formulating bowling plans for the forthcoming Test series in the UAE, India has given you a head start on your homework.

A rundown of India's bowling plans was found attached to the dressing room door at Galle International Stadium, seven weeks after India's match against Sri Lanka had ended there. A photo of the plans and scouting summary for each batsman is presently doing the rounds on social media:

Angelo Mathews, for example, is "uncomfortable against right-arm offspin" while a backward or forward short leg is in place, India's coaches and analysts thought. Despite Mathews' seeming proficiency with the pull shot, India's coaching staff advised their bowlers that the "short ball is a good option".

Upul Tharanga, meanwhile, might be susceptible to the full ball angling across his body, from the seamers, they believed. Against the spinners, he is unlikely to play the sweep.

Each of Sri Lanka's likely top eight in that match had both spin and pace entries. Dinesh Chandimal was a notable exclusion, as he missed that game with pneumonia.

Whatever specific plans had been forged on the back of this analysis, India seemed to use to good effect. They dismissed Sri Lanka for 291 and 245 on a batting track to claim a 304-run victory in this game. They would of course go on to dominate Sri Lanka's batsmen and win the series 3-0.
