James Franklin has been added to the New Zealand squad for the forthcoming one-day series against Bangladesh, starting next week. The New Zealand selectors had recently announced a 13-man squad with Daryl Tuffey being tipped as the 14th member. But with Tuffey needing more time to recoup from his knee injury, Franklin got his chance.
Franklin recently became only the second New Zealand player to pick up a hat-trick in Tests as he tore open the Bangladesh lower order in the first Test at Dhaka. John Bracewell, New Zealand's coach, said that Franklin deserved his one-day recall. "We felt that with his capability of swinging the ball, like Kyle Mills, he will cause trouble with his wicket-taking potential at the top of the order."
New Zealand are scheduled to play three one-dayers, with the first game at Chittagong on November 2. The next two matches will be day-night affairs at Dhaka.
New Zealand one-day squad
Mathew Sinclair, Nathan Astle, Peter Fulton, Hamish Marshall, Craig McMillan, Scott Styris, Chris Cairns, Andre Adams, Chris Harris, Brendon McCullum (wk), Daniel Vettori (capt), Ian Butler, Kyle Mills, James Franklin
