Bet365 couldn't split Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar at the top of the betting to be India's top runscorer in the series going into the second Test. But with Mohali behind us and two Tests to go, it's all change, with a new name at the top of the betting.
Gautam Gambhir, who is showing some nice consistency at the top of the order, tops the run charts with 221, and bet365 have responded by making him the 9/4 favourite to end the series on top.
The left-hander is a good player, but though he has a good advantage over the big two - Sehwag (176) and Tendulkar (160) - it is not that big a margin and if either man catches fire in Delhi in this week's third Test, then he will struggle to hold on.
Sehwag and Sourav Ganguly (who has 202 runs to his name) are next at 3/1, while Tendulkar is 4/1 and MS Dhoni (169) is 8/1 and Rahul Dravid (95) is a massive 20/1. Dravid, to me, looks on the verge of something big, but I have to say that Sehwag looks like he is ready to cut loose.
If he does, then he will take some stopping because it seems that scoring runs in India is easier against the harder, new ball, which means he has the advantage as an opener (along with Gambhir of course).
As for the bowlers, the pacemen have been taking most of the plaudits in the opening two Tests, with Ishant Sharma top of the tree on 11 wickets, one better than Zaheer Khan, while the spinners are lagging behind a little, with Harbhajan Singh on eight and Ashant Mishra on seven.
Bet365 have not updated their prices yet on the India bowlers, but it will be interesting to see what they do, especially since the word from Delhi is that they are preparing a real turner for Harbhajan and captain Anil Kumble, who is likely to return from injury, to exploit.
