Daren Ganga, the West Indies batsman, has been appointed Ramnaresh Sarwan's deputy for their tour of England.

Though Ganga, 29, was considered for the post of captain - and is, in many people's opinion, the eventual heir apparent - Sarwan was preferred due to his greater experience.

Also joining Sarwan in the management team is Richard Smith, the ECB Academy's physiologist, who has been appointed West Indies' strength and conditioning coach. In addition to Smith, David Scott has signed a six-week contract to serve under the spurious title of "performance enhancement consultant," essentially working with the mental aspects of the players' games.

West Indies depart for England on Tuesday. The first Test, at Lord's, gets underway on May 17.
