Scorecard
Glamorgan's season continued to go from bad to worse as they slid to a ten-wicket defeat against Kent at Cardiff, their sixth loss in seven matches. Forced to follow on after being out 358 in arrears, they were reduced to 5 for 3 by Amjad Khan before Sourav Ganguly restored a semblance of pride with a defiant 142. He cracked five sixes and 15 fours and was the last man out after a tenth-wicket stand of 80 with Andrew Davies had at least ensured that Kent had to bat again. Needing just 51 to win, Kent knocked off the runs without loss in 7.5 overs.

Surrey 460 (Brown 152*, Thornely 81, Clinton 73,Richardson 6-107) lead Middlesex 437by 23 runs
Scorecard
A superb unbeaten 152 from Ali Brown, aided by a cracking 81 from Dominic Thornely, ensured the third day at Lord's ended just about honours even. For a full report see Match of the Day.

Day One: Gloucestershire 252 (Pearson 52) v Warwickshire
Scorecard
Gloucestershire had a difficult first day against holders Warwickshire, struggling to make any progress against some tight bowling. James Pearson hit a patient 52 but five other batsmen got starts without going on. Dougie Brown took four wickets at the top of the order, while Neil Carter polished off the tail.

Division Two

Lancashire 379 and 291 for 5 (Chilton 112, Sutcliffe 52) lead Yorkshire 335 (Jaques 97, White 71, Lumb 68, Anderson 4-97) by 335 runs

Mark Chilton's unbeaten 112 put Lancashire in a strong position at the end of the third day of the Roses match at Headingley. In the morning, James Anderson sent a reminder to England's selectors with three Yorkshire wickets, finishing with 4 for 97, before Chilton and Ian Sutcliffe gave Lancashire a good start with an opening stand of 100, and then Chilton and Mal Loye (43) put on another 113 for the second wicket. Matthew Hoggard took 3 for 71, all three wickets coming four runs in 14 deliveries and using four different balls.

Somerset 408 and 151 for 9 (Mason 5-34) lead Worcestershire 423 (Smith 140, Moore 86, Caddick 5-132) by 136 runs
Scorecard
Worcestershire moved within sight of victory after an inspired bowling performance by Matt Mason left Somerset with a lead of 136 and only one second-innings wicket in hand at Bath. Ben Smith took his overnight 107 to 140 in the morning after resuming with Daryl Mitchell, who had replaced Gareth Batty who was heading to join the England squad. In all, Worcestershire added 95 to their overnight 328 for 4, with Andy Caddick finishing with 5-132. Trailing by 15, Somerset lost both openers before clearing the deficit. Mason added five wickets to his first-innings haul of four, including Michael Burns for 49, bowled offering no stroke.

Day Two: Essex 112 and 56 for 1 trail Durham 506 (Muchall 123, Benkenstein 110, Breese 63) by 339 runs
Scorecard
Durham moved into an almost impregnable position in the top-of-the-table clash at Chester-le-Street after bowling Essex out for 106 with Ashley Noffke and Mark Davies sharing eight wickets. In the morning, Durham extended their overnight 380 for 4 into 506, with Dale Benkenstein making 110, reaching his century off 204 balls by hitting successive leg-side fours off Andre Adams. When Essex batted it was a different story as they were skittled for 106 in 55 overs, only Alastair Cook (39) offering any real fight. Cook and Will Jefferson - who had a first innings duck - had to survive nine overs when the visitors were asked to follow on before the close, but Davies bowled Jefferson for 2.
