Gavaskar bat goes on sale for big bucks

An Australian sports and promotional products firm has launched a Sunil Gavaskar memorabilia bat, featuring two hand painted oil portraits of the master batsman and highlighting his career statistics.

Each bat will be signed personally by Gavaskar, and will cost, in Indian currency, Rs 29,595 inclusive of freight.

A company spokesman said in Bombay that the memorabilia market is strongest in the United States, estimated at about 1.3 billion dollars, followed by the United Kingdom at around 160 million dollars and then Australia, where the market is estimated at 40 million dollars.

The potential for the Gavaskar bat, and such other memorabilia, is being estimated around the 300 million mark.
