Adam Gilchrist and Ricky Ponting are the top two batsmen in the latest LG ICC batting rankings, after dominating the England bowlers in the last two matches of the NatWest Challenge. Both batsmen achieved their highest points levels last year and their batting against England will have been a welcome return to form. With Glenn McGrath top in the bowling and Brett Lee fifth (both unchanged over the two series), Australia's supremacy in the one-day game is clear.
Andrew Flintoff ends the series as England's top batsman (ninth), though he has dropped out of the top ten bowlers. Marcus Trescothick is up three places to 13th, while Kevin Pietersen is up seven to 14th, his highest ranking to date. Steve Harmison is England's top bowler, in ninth place, despite his mauling in the final match at The Oval.
The LG ICC Rankings have been adapted to accommodate the super-substitute rule. A player who bats or bowls in the match, however briefly, is treated as a full participant. However, a substitute who is not called on to bowl or bat - such as Vikram Solanki at Lord's, or Simon Jones at The Oval - is treated the same way as a player who did not play in the match, and loses 0.5% of his points.
