BRISBANE - Injury-prone Australia pace bowler Jason Gillespie was today ruled out of the first cricket Test against the West Indies starting here on Thursday because of a hamstring strain.
Gillespie suffered the hamstring twinge in South Australia's one day game against New South Wales on Sunday at North Sydney Oval.
Australian team medical staff said he had not recovered as well as hoped and would have been a risk over a five day Test.
Colin Miller is also out of the 13-man squad and will play for Victoria in the Pura Cup game against South Australia starting at the MCG on Thursday, elevating Andy Bichel and Stuart MacGill into the Test XI.
West Australian batsman Damien Martyn comes in as 12th man.
