On a day when 15 wickets fell at The Rose Bowl, a high class display of seam bowling from Michael Kasprowicz (5-48), ably supported by Robert Croft (2-51) and David Harrison (2-51) allowed Glamorgan to enforce the follow on as a lacklustre Hampshire side were dismissed for 185, and the home team have already lost four wickets in their second innings, ending the day still 138 runs in arrears.
Kasprowicz`s lion hearted efforts in the humid conditions were rewarded with his second best haul of the season as the Queenslander posed problems for all of Hampshire`s batsmen. He began by bowling unchanged for an hour and a half from the Northern End, taking 2-22 in his opening salvo, before switching after lunch to the Pavilion End and trapping Nic Pothas leg before as Hampshire slumped to 102-5.
Robert Croft got the all important wicket of Hampshire captain John Crawley shortly after lunch with one that turned and bounced, giving Jon Hughes a straightforward catch at short-leg. Seven overs later, the Glamorgan captain dismissed John Francis as Mark Wallace clung onto a bottom edge as the young Hampshire batsman attempted a square cut.
Wallace took his third catch as Richard Hindley tried to flick David Harrison down the leg side. The young seamer struck again as Mascarenhas edged to second slip, before Kasprowicz returned to polish off the resistance as Tremlett spooned a catch to Wharf in the gulley and then clean bowling James Tomlinson to give the Welsh county a decisive first innings lead of 252.
Second time around, it was Robert Croft who caused problems for the Hampshire batsmen. Jimmy Adams departed in the spinner`s first over after edging a ball into Wallace`s gloves by a ball that scuttled along the ground. Two overs later Croft bowled Kenway as the opener attempted an extravagent sweep, and then in his fifth over, John Crawley was stumped by Wallace as he danced down the wicket.
Simon Katich counter-attacked with a forceful half century but in the final over of the day he went on the offensive once too often and was well caught on the long leg boundary by Alex Wharf. Croft finished the day with figures of 4/31 and it appears only a matter of time before Glamorgan wrap up their fourth Championship win of the season.
