The home side, chasing a stiff target of 337 runs, were dismissed half an hour before tea for 226. Mike Kasprowicz was the pick of the attack, with figures of 5-77, including four wickets in a fine spell after lunch, with the Australian bowling unchanged from the New Road end for almost an hour and a half.

Darren Thomas also claimed a further three wickets to go with his five wickets in Worcestershire`s first innings, whilst off-spinner Robert Croft claimed two important wickets in the pre-lunch session as Worcestershire stuttered in their run chase.

"It`s nice to get a win under our belts," said skipper Steve James after the match. "Our bowlers were superb, whilst Mike Powell and young Jonathan Hughes both batted well on a wicket that had plenty in it for the bowlers. The overhead conditions also added to the difficulties by helping the ball to swing."

"I`m pleased that our bowlers were disciplined and bowled on one side of the wicket. Darren Thomas had a fine spell in the first innings, whilst today Mike Kasprowicz bowled superbly, and got his due reward by picking up five wickets."
