Glove me do

Two Ws, five in an innings, one spinner who was tough to read

First pair of gloves
Initially, when I started playing cricket for the Malir Companion Club, I used the gloves the club provided. I dreamt of having my own gloves at that time. Then, when I started playing first-class cricket for UBL, Saleem Yousuf gifted me a pair of gloves.

First time I kept to the two Ws
It happened on the England tour, 1992. Waqar Younis was my team mate at UBL so I had developed an understanding with him by then and I knew how he bowled. But I was really tentative against Wasim Akram because he did not tolerate any dropped catches or let-ups and used to vent his anger verbally. But with time I won his faith too by grabbing some half-chances. I'm very fortunate to have kept to the two Ws in their pomp.

First batsman who impressed me with his skill and style
I can name two: Aravinda de Silva and Martin Crowe. It was enjoyable to watch them bat from behind the stumps.

First spinner who was hard to pick
Aamer Sohail. It was really tough to guess which of his deliveries would come straight and which one would turn.

First time I took five catches in an innings overseas
It was in Auckland, New Zealand, on the 1994 tour. I took nine catches in that Test. It was a green top surface. The bounce was even, and Wasim and Waqar devastated New Zealand with fiery spells.
