Sripathi Sooriyarachchi, a government minister, will stand for the post of president in the forthcoming cricket board elections, the first elections to be held since 2004. According to The Daily News, Sooriyarachchi told them he has come forward to "unite all quarters and take Sri Lanka Cricket forward".

Nominations for the coveted president's position within the board's executive are due by July 01. The Annual General Meeting will take place two weeks later. The government announced last week that it would be restoring democracy to the cricket board after 15 months of control by a government-appointed interim committee.
