Hall's appeal rejected
South African player Andrew Hall will miss the next two Test matches following the decision by ICC Code of Conduct Commission member, Sir Oliver Popplewell, to reject his appeal over the two match ban
South African player Andrew Hall will miss the next two Test matches following the decision by ICC Code of Conduct Commission member, Sir Oliver Popplewell, to reject his appeal over the two match ban.
Sir Oliver upheld the decision made by ICC Referee, Clive Lloyd, relating to the charge made against Mr Hall a Level 3 offence for conduct that brings the game into disrepute (C2) for which he has been banned for two Test matches.
Sir Oliver reached his decision after reviewing the ICC Match Referee's report, the grounds of appeal submitted on behalf of Andrew Hall and viewing a video of the incident.
In making his decision Sir Oliver stated that the Level 3 charge was appropriate.
"No one who has seen the video, and I have seen it 4 or 5 times, can be in any doubt that there was a very serious confrontation between Mr Hall and Mr Youhana and that a Level 3 charge of breach of C2 was entirely appropriate," said Sir Oliver.
The penalty relating to a level 3 offence is a minimum of a two Test match ban
The judgment has now been formally passed to ICC Legal Counsel, forwarded to the Legal Counsel acting for Andrew Hall, ICC Match Referee Clive Lloyd and the United Cricket Board of South Africa.
The decision of the ICC Code of Conduct Commissioner is final and binding.
