Hampshire players enjoyed a good workout on the second day of their pre-season match against neighbours Sussex at Hove. The previous day's encounter which was washed out after lunch was cancelled and captains Shaun Udal and Chris Adams agreed on a 50 overs a side contest, which by mutual consent Sussex batted first.
Sussex soon lost opener Richard Montgomerie to Billy Taylor, who forced his former colleague to edge to wicket-keeper Nic Pothas.
Ian Ward, the home sides new acquisition, showed some class and he pulled an drove his way to 48 with 7 fours, but Shaun Udal's third ball saw him comprehensively bowled.
Earlier Matt Prior after a quick fire innings, fell to the impressive and fitter looking Chris Tremlett, another catch for Pothas.
Chris Adams struggled early on but found some form to reach 49 before rain finally put paid to the innings after 43 overs.
After lunch, Hampshire were asked to get 184 in the same 43 overs, and were well on to their target when April showers again fell on the County Ground.
Derek Kenway and Michael Brown shared an unbeaten opening stand of 112, with both passing their respective half-centuries. Kenway stroked 11 boundaries, and Brown smote 3 sixes and three fours. The game being abandoned at that stage.
