Hampshire sign Voges to replace Clark

Hampshire have signed Adam Voges to replace Stuart Clark. The arrival of Voges, the 27-year-old middle-order Western Australia batsman, means Hampshire maintain two Australians as their overseas players.

Shane Warne will not feature in the Twenty20s, as he takes a mid-season break. A replacement captain will be announce in due course.

The Twenty20 fortnight kicks off on Friday and Hampshire will face Kent at home in their first match. On Wednesday Hampshire will play their Friends Provident Trophy semi-final, also at the Rose Bowl, which will be Clark's last game with the county.

Australia called up Voges for their third Ashes Test squad at the end of last year, following two centuries and 320 runs at an average of 160 for Western Australia, but he did not play. He is known in his homeland for his maiden one-day century in 2004-05, a 62-ball effort which was then the fastest in Australia's domestic history.

Paul Terry, the Hampshire manager, said: "Having coached Adam in Perth I know first hand what an explosive contribution he will make."
