Now that McGrath and Pollock are gone, who stakes claim to the title of the best quick bowler in cricket?

commentator and former Australia fast bowler
It has to be Brett Lee. He has become the complete fast bowler. He has improved his control - he doesn't bowl too short and wide or too full. He has learned the art of the quick yorker. He combines that well with the slower ball, which he delivers from the back of the hand, and sometimes a well disguised offcutter too. Skills aside, he is superbly fit and is willing to bowl tirelessly in all conditions.

commentator and former South Africa batsman
My choice of the best swing/fast bowler today is Dale Steyn. His ability to swing the ball away from the right-hander at serious pace is a rare talent. He has also shown the ability to swing and reverse swing the older ball. I have no doubt that in time he will work on his changes of pace and improve on the one that goes straight on. What will also work for him is that as he loses pace, his good action will still allow him to continue swinging the ball. He may well develop a genuine inswinger to go with it all.

Manoj Prabhakar
former India swing bowler
After Glenn McGrath and Shaun Pollock, Brett Lee has taken over the status of the best fast bowler in the world today. He has speed and is accurate and can swing the ball dangerously. Also, he has a well balanced landing. A good fast bowler is one who has a smooth run-up, followed by a high jump, which is then followed by the arch backwards in mid-air, and ends in a good follow-through. Lee has worked hard in every department and has achieved a rhythm, and he can read the batsman well, which makes him a dangerous proposition.

Ramiz Raja
commentator and former Pakistan batsman
The best fast bowler is Brett Lee. Lee has got pace and accuracy, and he's aggressive also. At this level all fast bowlers do have stamina but it's about his attitude and the way he bowls. He's relentlessly at you all the time. Ryan Sidebottom is the best swing bowler - he has swung the ball not only in English and New Zealand conditions, he's bowled well in Sri Lanka also.

Angus Fraser
commentator and former England swing bowler
Brett Lee is thriving now that he's been given the responsibility of leading Australia's attack. It's brought the best out of him and filled a big void for Australia because they must have been worried when Glenn McGrath retired. With his blond hair and good looks, and the fact he plays the game in the right spirit, he was always one of the big names, but his record before McGrath went was actually pretty ordinary. Now he's not just taking wickets, he's bowling with far more discipline, and he's staying fit.

Dale Steyn is a magnificent prospect, and I wouldn't think England's batsmen will be looking forward to facing him this summer. He's quick, he swings it away, and he doesn't seem to worry about roughing people up.

Ryan Sidebottom's done brilliantly this year, but you have to take into account the conditions he's bowled in and the opposition, while another name for the future is Ishant Sharma, who bowled magnificently in Australia and made a big impression with his height, bounce and pace.
