Hawke's Bay batted first and scored 317 with Campbell Furlong scoring 65 not out, Craig Findlay 64 and Andrew Murley 44. Manawatu didn't help themselves by conceding 50 extras, including 25 no-balls.

Scott Baldwin took three for 81, Harry Pandya two for 29 and Ewen Thompson two for 93.

In reply, Manawatu could score only 254. David Fulton hit 58, Jason McGregor 39 and Thompson 31.

Furlong backed his batting effort by taking three for 54 while Richard Gilhooly picked up three for 77 and Paul Unwin two for 48.

Hawke's Bay batting a second time to reach 90 for one with Murley scoring 50 not out.

Hawke's Bay's first defence of the Cup will be against Northland, at Napier on March 1-3.
