Matthew Hayden's poor patch is a concern for the output of Australia's faltering top-order, but the run is not worrying John Buchanan, the coach, or Ricky Ponting. Buchanan won't even say Hayden is out of form, preferring to call the mental side of his game "out of sync".
Buchanan said Hayden's technique was fine, he was physically in good shape and his mental approach was being worked on. "Where he's at right at the moment is just adjusting his mental game and the best place to do that is where you're challenged the most and where he's challenged the most will be in the international arena," Buchanan told ABC Online. "History shows his performances and experience will find a way to start getting those results, or what people call form, earlier rather than later."
Ponting is also not bothered by Hayden's streak, which has included scores of 3, 27 and 6 in the VB Series and 2 in the tsunami match. "He's an outstanding player and has been for such a long period of time and I'm sure he'll work his way back into form," he told ABC Online.
