Hillcrest College Report, 2000

Cricket at Hillcrest College has had another good season

Cricket at Hillcrest College has had another good season. Despite problems of fuel and its relatively small size, the school manages to hold its own against even the largest schools.

Highlights in 2000 have been the Under-14 and under-15 cricket tour to Johannesburg and the first-term South African tour which, at the time of writing, is going well. Coach Simon Scott-Elliot continues to mould confident, technically sound cricketers and teams with high morale.

Tino Mawoyo (Under-16) and Leslie Gaylard (Under-14) were both selected for their country, while the age-group `B' teams had good games, so the school is managing some depth despite limited intakes.

The school is grateful for the efforts of Bill Flower and the CFX Cricket Academy for the help extended to extra coaching, and the all-weather net at Mutare Sports Club is a magnificent new feature for the town. The College is also benefiting from strong teams coming through from its feeder schools of Hippo Valley, Murray MacDougal, Mvurachena and, of course, Hillcrest Preparatory School.
