Dec 30: Hobart Hurricanes vs Brisbane Heat, Brisbane

Loading ...

Pro Tip: The Hurricanes' batting is one of the strongest in the league with their entire top five having International experience. Back them to come good after a disappointing performance in the last game against the same opposition, especially if they are chasing.

Our XI: Dawid Malan, D'Arcy Short, Sam Heazlett, Jimmy Peirson, Jack Widermuth, Lewis Gregory, Mark Steketee, Ben McDermott, Tim David, Riley Meredith, Nathan Ellis

Substitutes: Max Bryant, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Scott Boland, Colin Ingram

Player availability: The Heat's Chris Lynn and the Hurricanes' James Faulkner will miss out because of injury. Also, Daniel Lawrence will not be available for the rest of the season. We might not always be able to tip you off about late injury (or other relevant) updates, so please finalise your team after the toss.

Captain: Dawid Malan
Malan, the No. 1-ranked T20I batsman, made his BBL debut in the last game. In 2020, he has scored 397 runs in ten T20Is at an average of 49.62 and a strike rate of 142.29. He was also the fifth-highest run-scorer in BPL 2019 with 444 runs in 11 games at an average of 49.33.

Vice-captain: D'Arcy Short
The Hurricanes' run-machine Short has scored 386 runs in seven games against Heat at an average of 77.20 and a strike rate of 144.56 including his career best score of 122 not out. He showed his bowling proficiency in the last game as well with a haul of 3 for 18.

Hot Picks
Lewis Gregory: England's allrounder Gregory was in splendid form with the ball in the last game, picking up three out of the top four wickets against the Hurricanes. His all-round display in BPL 2019 had seen him score 262 runs and pick up 15 wickets in 11 games.

Jack Wildermuth: After a below-par season with in BBL 09, Wildermuth has been splendid for Heat this season, picking up five wickets at an economy of 5.91. He also displayed his prowess with the bat by scoring a brilliant 11-ball 31 against Thunder this season.

Ben McDermott: Despite missing a few games for the Hurricanes, McDermott is the fourth-highest run-getter in BBL 10 with 151 runs at a strike rate of 148.03. Now that he is getting the opportunity to open the batting, expect him to score more runs.

Differential Picks
Tim David: David hadn't enjoyed much success in the previous seasons with the Scorchers, but the switch to Hurricanes has worked, with him scoring 145 runs at a strike rate of 154.25. He has also scored 20-plus runs in all five games so far.

Riley Meredith: Meredith has picked up seven wickets in five games so far at an average of 20.57. With James Faulkner getting injured in the last game, expect him to bowl more in the powerplay and at the death, therefore increasing his chances of picking wickets.

Alternate Scenarios

  • If Sandeep Lamichhane is available, swap him in for Nathan Ellis.
