The Chairman of the Junior Selection Panel, Steve Atkinson commented that "there had been real competition for places in this U-15 team and particularly amongst the pace bowlers. The team selected appears a balanced and hard working side for what is a very competitive and challenging tournament".
The selection process for this team began with trial sessions in July and August and in September a Provisional Squad was selected. Players in this squad, in addition to supervised mid week training sessions (with Sher Lama, Afzaal Haider and Butt Hussain) at Mission Road, have been playing in the Men's Saturday League competition together with Coach Sher Lama and Najeeb Amar as the HKCA development side Mainlanders.
The squad also played 3 matches earlier this month against a Hong Kong Cricket Club Junior XI, an English Schools Foundation team and an Independent Clubs XI winning each of these games.
Of the 14 players selected 5 played in the ACC U-15 Elite Cup tournament held in mid 2006 in Kuala Lumpur where Hong Kong, with a young squad, failed to register a win. Five other players have also played age group cricket at international level when representing Hong Kong in 2005 in the U-13 Tuanku Jaffar tournament. The remaining players selected are new to international age group cricket.
The players selected for this tournament must meet ICC Eligibility Criteria as applied by the Asian Cricket Council and be under the age of 15 on 1 July 2007. In addition, there must be 2 players on the field at all times who hold Hong Kong passports and this number is scheduled to increase in future tournaments.
The team departs for Kathmandu, Nepal on 19 November 2007 for 4 days of pre-tournament training and 2 practice matches in Nepal before the tournament commences. The 50 over format will be employed at the tournament, white balls used and coloured clothing and kit worn.
The 10 countries participating are:
