England's all-too-predictable failure to chase down 165 against New Zealand left South Africa with two chances to secure their place in the semi-finals of the World Twenty20 but they will be out to take it first time by beating New Zealand on Wednesday.

Even if they lose to the Black Caps and then India in their final match, they will almost certainly progress, but the way they have played so far suggests they should have too much for New Zealand.

Bet365 make the hosts 4/6 (1.66) to come out on top, while New Zealand, who should not be underestimated, are 11/10.

New Zealand have the uncanny ability to be a better side than the sum of their parts and in this truncated form of the game, that is worth its weight in gold as one piece of great fielding could be the difference between winning and losing.

They have already qualified, which usually is a sign to stay away and Australia's defeat by Pakistan means that may not be too desperate to win the group. South Africa will want to maintain momentum, though, which makes them the obvious choice in front of their home crowd.

Smith favourite
There's nothing better than a captain leading from the front and Graeme Smith, who has looked in good form, is 11/4 favourite to top-score for his side on Wednesday.

Herschelle Gibbs, who can cut loose against any attack and who looks set to be fit, is next at 10/3, while AB De Villiers is 7/2. Gulam Bodi, Jean-Paul Dumini and Justin Kemp are all 9/2, while Mark Boucher, who is always a good bet if the top order are out of form, is 11/2. And Albie Morkel, who showed his ability against England, is an 8/1 chance.

Brendon McCullum is 10/3 favourite to score the most runs for New Zealand, just ahead of Peter Fulton and Lou Vincent, both 7/2, and Ross Taylor, a 4/1 bet.

Scott Styris is next at 11/2, while Jacob Oram and Craig McMillan are both 7/1.

The Durban pitch is expected to offer the side bowling first a bit of an edge, so wait for the toss before getting involved, but with Shaun Pollock bowling well, I'd be surprised if South Africa don't win it.
