Hussey odds-on to be top Australia scorer

Michael Hussey tops the run charts after two Tests and the left-hander they call "Mr Cricket" is odds-on to stay on top come the end of the series.

Hussey, whose attention to detail is second to none and who appears to value his wicket more than most, is now 8/15 to finish as Austalia's top scorer, having made 232 runs in the opening two games.

That's 79 runs more than his nearest challenger, Simon Katich, so explains why there is such a gap between himself and the rest in the betting with bet365.

Captain Ricky Ponting, who has 147 runs so far, is next at 4/1, while Katich, who has managed six more than his skipper, is an 8/1 chance. Michael Clarke, who I think is playing as well as any of his team-mates, is 9/1 while Shane Watson is 16/1 and Matthew Hayden is a massive 20/1.

Hayden has totalled just 42 runs in the first two Tests but we know what he is capable of so he could represent a bit of value, although to make up 190 runs on Hussey in just two Tests would be asking an awful lot.

Mitchell Johnson has arguably been the best of the Australia bowlers so far, taking eight wickets in the first two Tests, but wickets is what is hindering Australia and their attack, as a whole, is struggling.

Johnson is 4/6 to stay on top come the end of the series, while Brett Lee, who topped the bowling market going into the series but who is struggling ever so slightly, is next at 3/1, having managed just four wickets to date.

Shane Watson and Peter Siddle are both 10/1, while Stuart Clark could yet get in on the act, at 16/1, if he can recover fitness for the final two matches. He managed only one wicket in the first game before missing the second but is well capable of getting five each in the remaining two matches, so who knows.
