The VCA President, Mark Stafford said he was very pleased that the I.C.C. was able to support the efforts of the VCA. "It is very important that the programs VCA has started with the schools and young kids is carried on with. We hope this will be the catalyst to move forward into the secondary school system and throughout the country."

Funding has been provided for the following projects.

  • Full time Development Officer in 2002 - Pierre Chillia
  • Development Officer expenses
  • Kanga Cricket Equipment
  • Cricket Balls
  • Score Boards
  • Young elite players to Cricket Academy in NZ (to be confirmed)
  • Development Officer placement with Victorian Cricket Association
  • National Squad Coaching Assistance
  • The total development program assistance for the financial year to March 2002 is VT2,500,000. This is more than the I.C.C. originally budgeted for. The VCA considers the fine work carried out by Pierre Chillia in his role as Development Officer and other initiatives the VCA Committee have taken has definitely contributed to the I.C.C's favourable disposition towards supporting the VCA's efforts. Of course, the support of teachers; parents; and senior players has helped this effort tremendously.

The VCA looks forward to 2002 when the initiatives started this year will be built upon. Those will include:-

  • Primary Schools cricket
  • Westpac Kanga Cricket League
  • Teacher/Parent in-service workshops
  • Junior Secondary school program
  • Summer holiday kids program at Independence Park
