The first regional U/15 tournament was held in Melbourne in 2005.

Competing countries in the week long event will include Fiji, PNG, Japan, Vanuatu, Indonesia, Samoa, Tonga and the Cook Islands, making the EAP U/15 Cricket 8's a truly international tournament.

"This event is a crucial component of the ICC's goal to continually develop the sport in East Asia and the Pacific. It will provide a terrific cricket experience, and an outstanding life experience for the region's best young players," said ICC Regional Development Manager Tim Anderson.

"Considering Fiji's rich cricket history, the ICC is delighted that Suva will host this tournament and looks forward to working with Cricket Fiji to ensure it will be a highlight on next year's Fiji sporting calendar," added Mr Anderson.

Cricket Fiji Chairman Colonel Ilaisa Kacisolomone was proud that Fiji had been provided with the opportunity to host the EAP U/15 Cricket 8's.

"Following on from last year's Australian Centenary Celebrations, Fiji is becoming an important centre for international cricket events within the region. This is something we are excited about as such exposure will greatly assist the development of the sport locally," Colonel Kacisolomone said.

ICC EAP and Cricket Fiji are also keen to attract a number of local sponsors and government assistance to support the event.

"Given this tournament's goal to promote junior participation in sport, and considering the local and international interest it will receive, we are actively sourcing government and corporate partnerships," said Mr Anderson.

The EAP U/15 Cricket 8's will be played under modified rules including eight players per team, the incorporation of a `double zone' behind the bowler that allows double runs to be scored, and 20 over long innings. Teams will play two matches per day.
