India consolidate lead after Ashwin five-for

Continuing from their overnight 28 for 2, the South Africa batsmen weren't made to work that hard as India opened the bowling with Amit Mishra and a pacer  BCCI
Dean Elgar used his technique to good effect and hardly gave India any chances  BCCI

But R Ashwin was soon into the attack and he dismissed Elgar for 37  BCCI
AB de Villiers, usually comfortable against spin, struggled initially. There were a flurry of appeals against him and he also edged one behind, but Ravindra Jadeja had overstepped and de Villiers survived  BCCI
Hashim Amla used soft hands and his supple wrists to take his team past 100. But just when he approached his fifty, Ashwin had him stumped with a beauty for 43, and had Dane Vilas caught four balls later to leave the score on 107 for 5  BCCI
De Villiers marched on, meanwhile, using reverse-sweeps, the usual sweeps, and by coming down the track to spinners to register his 37th Test fifty, as more wickets fell around him  BCCI
Once de Villiers was dismissed for 63, India wrapped up South Africa's innings for 184, taking a 17-run lead, and R Ashwin finished with returns of 5 for 51  BCCI
South Africa managed an early breakthrough in the second innings, too, as Vernon Philander dismissed Shikhar Dhawan for a second successive duck  BCCI
M Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara steadied the innings again, this time adding 86 runs for the second wicket  BCCI
Vijay was finally dismissed for 47, falling to a stunning catch from Temba Bavuma at short-leg off Imran Tahir's bowling  BCCI
Pujara carried on and crossed his fifty, guiding India to 125 for 2 at close of play with an overall lead of 142 runs  BCCI
