India v England - turning points
Turning points from the first day of the second Test between India and England in Mumbai
0.1 Anderson to Gambhir, FOUR, and he starts with a half-volley on the pads. Gambhir says thank you very much. Clips it between square leg and midwicket. All along the ground
0.2 Anderson to Gambhir, OUT, Anderson strikes. Humid conditions, there is swing here, and Anderson cashes in. Length ball, swinging in, pitches on leg, holds its line. Gambhir plays across the line. Misses it. Hit in front of leg. Given.
G Gambhir lbw b Anderson 4 (2b 1x4 0x6) SR: 200.00
6.1 Panesar to Sehwag, FOUR, and like Samit Patel did, Panesar starts with a full toss, and he smacks it over wide mid-on. Not the best of hits, but it will do for a boundary. 16.1 Panesar to Sehwag, OUT, Monty strikes. Full, fired into the pads, Sehwag perhaps is looking to work it through that new gap created on the on. Misses it completely, the ball hits the pad, and then the off stumps. Monty is pumped. The crowd is somehow cheering the wicket. This is bizarre. But then again, who is the next man in?
V Sehwag b Panesar 30 (43b 4x4 0x6) SR: 69.76
18.5 Panesar to Tendulkar, OUT, Monty you beauty. What a ripper. Hits top of off after pitching leg. Can't ask for better from a left-arm spinner, especially when he is doing it at a pece that doesn't let you recover after being beaten in the flight. Tendulkar is forward but the ball is not full enough. It pitches leg, and turns away, Tendulkar can't cover the turn, and Tendulkar is bowled. Again. What joy for England. Pure ecstasy for Monty. What expressive face. Swann can't stop laughing either.
SR Tendulkar b Panesar 8 (12b 1x4 0x6) SR: 66.66.
73.3 Swann to Pujara, no run, Have they got him? England think so. He went for a pull and the ball deflected off short leg to midwicket. Well, actually, it's nowhere near protective equipment and has come off the boot but replays suggest it struck the ground first so Pujara survives.
80.2 Anderson to Pujara, FOUR, short, pulled around the corner and finds the gap past Panesar...100 to Pujara and another fine example of the patience and discipline required to make big runs.
