As Pakistan depart for a tough two-and-a-half month's summer, Inzamam-ul-Haq believes that a win would cap the end of his many visits to England. With four Tests and five one-day internationals lined up, Inzamam felt that his side had done their homework extensively.
"This would be my last tour of England so I want to make it memorable with a win [sic]," Inzamam, who made his debut at Edgbaston during Pakistan's tour in 1992, said. "We have had some good preparations for the tour and in all departments we are capable enough to achieve the best results in England."
The last time these two sides met last year, Pakistan beat England in both the Tests and one-dayers at home. Inzamam also hoped Sri Lanka's recent wins over England could motivate his side. "If Sri Lanka squared the Test series and won the one-day series they achieved that simply by playing good cricket so we too need to play good cricket to beat England and we are capable of doing that," he said. "Likewise we have not lost a series in England since 1982. This seems encouraging but we can keep the momentum only if we play well."
England struggled against Sri Lanka in the drawn Test series and conceded an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the current one-day series, but Inzamam felt that both sides had their share of worries. "If they have four to five players injured we too have two of our strike bowlers in Rana Naved-ul Hasan and Shoaib Akhtar injured so it's even when you enter the ground." A report on Naved's groin injury is expected on Wednesday before Pakistan take a decision as to the final spot. If Naved is ruled out, Samiullah Niazi, a left-arm fast bowler, or Mushtaq Ahmed, the veteran leg spinner, could fill in.
Pakistan play a one-dayer against Scotland at Edinburgh on Tuesday before two warm-up matches against Leicestershire and England A. The first Test starts at Lord's on July 13.
