Irfan Ahmed and Munir Dar shine
Irfan Ahmed and Munir Dar score centuries in the latest round of Saturday League action.
Irfan Ahmed and Munir Dar shone in Monday's Saturday League action on a weekend that was otherwise blighted by bad weather.
All of Saturday's action was abandoned after a squawly thunderstorm blew through the HKSAR. A number of games managed to get starts but all were eventually curtailed by the wet weather.
With Monday's holiday for the Mid-Autumn Festival, a full round of Saturday League matches was played.
At PKVR1, defending champions LSW Warriors continued their good start to the season, registering a 71 victory over Crusaders. Munir Dar was in irresistible form, scoring 112 runs in the Warrior's total of 215-7 and then claiming 4-33 with the ball. Former HKU player, Greg Thomas, provided the only highlight for Crusaders claiming 4-53 from his ten overs.
In the other match at PKVR, Lamma beat Kai Tak by 4 wickets. N Hawke was the best batsman for Kai Tak, scoring an undefeated 67 in their total of 160-7. Lamma eased to their target with Toby White hitting 54. David Belcastro claimed 4-49 for the pilots.
There was an upset result at the Gap as the newly reconstituted HK Under-19 team (formerly playing as Islanders) beat Nomads by 17 runs. Irfan Ahmed was the star for the youngsters, scoring 107 in a competitive total of 223-3. Gary Brierly added valuable support with 43 runs. In reply, Nomads were dismissed for 206, despite half centuties from C O'Sullivan and Luke Rewega, with Ahmed and John Bacon claiming three wickets apiece.
Biggest score of the day was achieved by Saracens, who racked up 262-8 against HKU at the Sandy Bay ground with Rahul Sharma top scoring with 80 for the KCC team. In reply the ever reliable Martin Sabine scored 73 while Mohsen Hafeez hit 52, but their efforts were in vein as they fell 32 runs short of their target. David Cross claimed 4-70 for Saracens.
At KCC, a strong Tartars side scored a comfortable victory over CCC. Mahmood led the CCC run charge, scoring 71 out of CCC's total of 204-7, whilst Moazzam Ayub claimed 4-61 for Tartars. In reply, Ilyas Gul top scored with 61 as the home side eased to a 6 wicket victory.
In other matches, Gap Ramblers scored an eight wicket victory over Police at PTS with Jeremy Collard hitting 89, whilst Witherers staggered to a 5 wicket victory over Mainlanders at Mission Road, despite chasing only a target of 66 for victory.
