After their spirited performance against Norway yesterday, Israel were in positive spirits ahead of today's clash against the home team and tournament favorites, Guernsey. However the game was one-sided almost from the very beginning, with Israel collapsing to 85 all out before Guernsey knocked off the required runs with 8 wickets and 24 overs still remaining.
Asked to bat first, Daniel Hyman (5) was first to go, playing all over a straight delivery trying to repeat an earlier lofted drive. The diminutive Josh Evans (2) fell trying to pull a bowler almost double his size, who had to bend down to stare him in the eye. Just when it seemed things couldn't get much worse Shmuel Moses (1) ran himself out looking for a suicidal single. and Gabi Schachat (0) chipped in the air straight to mid wicket. Eshkol Solomon put up a brave fight, continuing his good form from yesterday with another aggressive knock. However when he was bowled for 33 Israel's only priority was to try bat out the 50 overs. Even that became an impossibility as Herschel Gutman (9) ran himself out looking for a single into the covers, and the lower order didn't offer much more than their teammates higher up had.
Debutant Raymond Talkar struck in his very first over, with wicketkeeper Shailesh Bangerra taking a good catch standing up to the wicket. Yaniv Razpurker then bowled the other opener, leaving Guernsey seven for two and Israel dreaming of managing the most unexpected of victories. However there were no further moments of celebrations, as Guernsey comfortably completed the victory.
