Jamaica's start to the Carib Beer tournament was marred by an uneven pitch as they were dismissed for 188, but the signs for their opponents, Leeward Islands, weren't encouraging, for the pitch was expected to become more unstable as the match went on.

Donovon Pagon top-scored with 44 off 150 balls, but was dropped twice along the way. He was finally dismissed by Omari Banks, who exploited the dodgy track to take the wickets of Tamar Lambert (38) and Carlton Baugh as well. Banks ended with 3 for 41, while Kerry Jeremy claimed 3 for 43.

Jamaica's batsmen found survival a difficult task on this pitch. Only four batsmen reached double figures, but Jamaica's cause was helped by the 35 extras Leeward conceded.

The two other matches supposed to start today - Between Barbados and Windward Island, and Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago - were both rained off.
