Jameson High School Report, 2000

Cricket this year was quite successful for the Jameson teams

Cricket this year was quite successful for the Jameson teams. The first-term season which had only two matches played had its main highlights from the games played against Watershed College. In this tough encounter, the first team lost marginally but performed well with an outstanding 65 runs made by F. Munda. F. Munda, T. Katomeni and T. Kwaramba were three of our first-team players who were included amongst the 22 trialists for the Mashonaland Country Districts.

The third-term season started off on a high note with the first team winning two of their three festival matches played in Harare. The team won against Gateway and Lord Malvern and lost to Plumtree in a tightly contested match, in which one of our batsmen, T. Kwaramba, emerged with 57 runs. During the rest of the term, the team did quite well, winning half their matches.

Special mention should be made of the Under-15s and -16s who proved to be highly organised teams promising to produce talented players for next year's first team. The Under 16s won their first-term match against Watershed College overwhelmingly while the Under 15s also claimed a victory with an impressive six-wicket win. In the Under-15 game A. Pereira captured four for 15 after nine overs and N. Kidia also took four for 25 in his twelve overs. This saw Watershed being dismissed for 121 runs and, in reply, Jameson made 124 for four with A. Pereira top-scoring with 59 runs.

In the next game of the season the Under 15s kept their record as they won by 50 runs against Milton. In response to Milton's 73 runs Jameson scored 123, with V. Haritatos giving the middle-order batsmen a tough time to claim four for 11 in six overs.

In the first match of the third-term season, the Under 15 record stood firm with Jameson winning by 170 runs against Midlands Christian College. In this match P. le Roux top-scored with 80 runs of Jameson's 230 all out, in reply to MCC's 113 all out, with P.le Roux taking five wickets for 25 runs.

The most disappointing defeat for the Under 15s was against Eaglesvale where we lost by seven wickets. Our two opening bowlers, P. le Roux and V. Haritatos, claimed ten wickets, with le Roux taking nine for 75 after we were allowed to bowl them out despite their having already reached our score.

The next match after Eaglesvale saw our Under 15s losing to Churchill by five wickets in their second defeat of the season. Jameson were 132 all out with V. Haritatos top scoring with 39, followed by P.le Roux with 32.

Our last match of the season came in the form of a win against Watershed. Jameson were 188 all out with T. Mahachi making 73 runs and P. le Roux 38, and Watershed were 131 all out. Jameson won by 57 runs.

As a result of the good season's play by the Under 15s V. Haritatos was selected to play for Mashonaland Country Districts. P. le Roux also went to the trials but unfortunately did not manage to make the Zimbabwe team.

In conclusion these results augur well for the future of cricket at Jameson in the coming seasons.

Acknowledgements: All teams would like to thank the Headmaster of Jameson High School, Mr Runyowa, Mrs Catterall, Mr Mhakure, Mr Marodza and the Jameson SDA for their hard work, support and commitment in organizing all the home and away matches. Special mention should also be made of a Jameson High School parent, Mr Coetzee, and former pupil Mr J Rainsford for their assistance and coaching. Jameson cricket would not be where it is right now if it were not for the enthusiasm of all these wonderful people.
