August 1997 - spinal stress fractures incurred during fifth Test against England at Trent Bridge sidelines Gillespie for one year.

November 1998 - heel injury forces him to miss first Test against England.

December 1998 - right knee strain playing for South Australia keeps him out of remainder of Ashes series.
