Cricket Victoria has paid homage to one its favourite sons by naming the Player of the Match in the Premier 1st XI Final, the John Scholes Medal.
Scholes, who tragically passed away in July this year, had held discussions with the Cricket Victoria Board about the prospect of naming the Medal after him in recognition of his outstanding performances in Premier/District Cricket, and particularly in Finals.
"John was always reluctant about this whilst he was still involved in coaching," said Cricket Victoria Chief Executive Officer Ken Jacobs.
"I have recently had discussions with John's family about the concept, and they are delighted that his name will live on in Premier Cricket ranks, a competition which was always very close to his heart," he added.
In a record 396 games for Carlton and Fitzroy Doncaster, "Barrel" as he was affectionately known, amassed 12,693 runs including 26 centuries.
Scholes played in 9 VCA Finals - a record he jointly holds with Blackie, Ironmonger and Ponsford - for 5 premierships. His performances in VCA Finals were outstanding. Listed below, he totalled 620 runs @ 77.50 in these matches.
