WA Chairman of Selectors Mr Wayne Hill announced that Justin Langer would succeed Adam Gilchrist as Captain of the Warriors. Michael Hussey was installed as Vice-Captain.

Langer, WA's highest run scorer in Test cricket, revealed that captaining his state was one of the pinnacles of his career.

"This is a lifelong dream," he said.

"It means so much to me because I am passionate about Western Australia, I love WA.

"I used to come to the WACA Ground every week as a kid and watch Geoff Marsh and Dennis Lillee and Rod Marsh play. I never actually thought I would get here."

Langer confessed that he would one day love to captain Australia, saying that it is every cricketer's ultimate fantasy.

"That would be the pinnacle of my career," he said.

Langer said that respect is the most important attribute a captain must have and developing players is the most critical role.

"I think developing players is the most important role a captain has," he said.

"In just about every media conference I have done over the last two years I've mentioned Steve Waugh.

"Steve Waugh's great skill as captain is to make people believe in themselves, more than they ever did before."

Langer's first outing as Warriors Captain will be in the ING Cup clash against South Australia at the WACA Ground on October 24.
